The Albino Cockatiel
The Albino cockatiel is actually a multi-mutation bird that combines the Whiteface & Lutino mutations. This snowy white bird is totally devoid of any grey tones (from the Lutino) and also any yellow and orange tones (from the Whiteface) and has bright red eyes. Although this is not a true Albino, the Whiteface Lutino is still referred to as an Albino.
Some Albinos will show a melanin cinnamon coloured overlay. This is not the actual Cinnamon mutation, but an affect from the Lutino side where some Lutinos (usually mature cocks) show a pinkish brown overlay. The Cinnamon however int he Whiteface Lutino Cinnamon is much more noticeable than the overlay that some of the Albinos can show.
Whiteface Lutino (Albino) cockatiels appear pure white at hatching (like a normal Whiteface) but have bright clear red eyes (like a Lutino). Their whole body including their feet and toe-nails is void of any pigment. When breeding Whiteface Lutinos, be careful of the dreaded "bald spot" from the Lutino side and make sure you get the best quality Lutinos you can find to breed from.
To produce a Whiteface Lutino hen, both parents must carry Whiteface with the cock bird being either Lutino or split Lutino. To produce a Whiteface Lutino cock, the hen must also be Lutino.
