The Platinum Cockatiel

Platinum is a sex-linked recessive mutation of extreme dilution. They appear a smoky silvery grey colour with their primary flight and tail feathers usually being darker than the rest of their body.

Platinum eyes can vary from bright red to plum when they hatch, but they usually turn dark after about 1-2 weeks. Beak, feet, toenails, legs are a pale beige colour.

Platinum has been proven to be co-dominant with the Lutino mutation. For more information about Lutino & Platinum, have a look at my Platino section. The Platinum mutation is not availiable outside of Australia. The Platinums which are overseas are actually just descriptive names given to Dominant Silver cockatiels.
